I think that ebay can be a great springboard for new online businesses, but maybe it would be worthwhile considering having a main e-commerce site and using ebay as more of a marketing tool - i.e. catch your buyers attention with ebay but then direct them to your own site for subsequent purchases. I'm sure that you would save a small fortune in fees that way.

That type of practice is strictly prohibited by Ebay. IF they catch you redirecting to your own website, they'll ban you and kick you off permanently.

I think I maybe phrased my idea incorrectly - could you use it to sell 'whatever' product and then in the follow up (not on the advert/sales page) inform your buyer about your own website? i.e. use it to generate back end sales so that the repeat business comes directly to you and not through ebay
