Default After the Sale Marketing

Hey Gang,

After years of losing money on PPC advertising, I finally had a great rep @ PriceGrabber.Com (thanks Vladimir) that had the patience to explain how it's supposed to work.

Basically, I was expecting to earn more in net profits than I spent on PPC all the time ... and he was explaining to me that part of the PPC cost isn't just the sale ... but customer acquisition.

In other words - I may spend $100 on PPC (say PriceGrabber) on a single day, and only net $75 in profits ... but he told me that the idea is now I have a customer I can do "post sale marketing" to ... and that becomes a repeat customer for life.

I'd like to know how you suggest marketing to first-time customers after they'd made that initial purchase. Any thoughts?

Though I dont claim any expertise in this field of making business, I would say making a worthwhile sale to first time customers should be marked with satisfaction. Thats the only sure way to get them to duplicate and replicate the first sale you have made. They would also serve as good marketing tools. Word of mouth has earned its credits over time remember?

Ok, newbie question alert

Isn't this where the infamous 'list' starts? You have your customer from PPC, they obviously fit your marketing profile because they have purchased from you, and the theory goes that if they have once they are more likely to again. Therefore isn't your next step to keep in touch via a newsletter (if they have consented) so that you can guide them to other products you have that will interest them?

I can't think of any other ways other than the newsletter/informative email of keeping them in touch with your products, or am I missing something?

Charmed,
That's exactly the way it should work. If you are looking to be profitable on PPC only on the 1x time buyer, and not getting the repeat buyer (who doesn't even go to the PPC search engines and click your ad, thus charging you again), you'll never be profitable.

Hmm... I think that my lurking in various dark corners and devouring free ebooks is beginning to pay off. It's taken a while but it's all finally started to sink in. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to explore my ideas about the area without feeling like a complete idiot
